The J.A.M. Effect
You don’t need another pep talk. You need to understand what’s actually getting in your way.
The J.A.M. Effect™ helps you recognize the patterns, beliefs and inner dialogue influencing how you show up—so you can stop judging yourself for them and start choosing what happens next.
From the outside, you're doing fine—maybe even better than fine. But underneath, you might recognize yourself here:
You've probably done some work already. You've read the books, listened to the podcasts, maybe gone to therapy or taken a workshop. You have self-awareness. And yet, knowing better hasn't always translated into doing differently.
That's where The J.A.M. Effect begins.
Your inner critic doesn't always sound critical. Sometimes it sounds practical. Responsible. Protective. It tells you not to speak up because you might be wrong. To say yes because you don't want to disappoint someone. To keep pushing because what you've accomplished still isn't enough.
Eventually, you stop hearing these messages as thoughts and start accepting them as facts:
The J.A.M. Effect helps you create enough space between you and that voice to ask a different question:
Is this actually true—or is this something I've learned to believe?
The J.A.M. Effect™ is built around three stages that help you move from simply recognizing what's happening to making different choices and practising those choices in real life.
Notice it before you judge it.
We'll help you recognize your thoughts, patterns, triggers and inner dialogue without immediately deciding they mean something is wrong with you.
Instead of asking, "What's wrong with me?" you begin asking, "What am I noticing?"
That small shift creates room for something different.
Awareness gives you information. Alignment helps you decide what to do with it.
You'll get clearer about what you need, what matters to you, where your boundaries are and whether your choices actually align with the person you want to be.
The question becomes: "Does what I'm doing line up with what I say I want?"
And when it doesn't, we work on what gets in the way.
Knowing isn't the same as doing.
Mastery is where you practise using what you've learned in real life—when the inner critic shows up, when saying no feels uncomfortable, when you doubt yourself or when an old pattern would be easier.
The goal isn't perfection.
It's becoming better equipped to recognize what's happening, choose your response and get yourself back on track.
Throughout The J.A.M. Effect™, you'll build tools based on your own experiences, language, needs and goals.
These aren't generic affirmations or worksheets you complete and forget about. They're yours. You build them from your life and continue using them after the program ends.
You leave with more than insight. You leave with tools for what happens next.
There is something powerful about saying the thing you've been thinking privately and discovering you're not the only one.
The J.A.M. Effect™ is intentionally a group experience. You'll learn alongside other women who are doing their own work, asking their own questions and challenging their own patterns.
You'll also have two experienced facilitators guiding the process.
This isn't about comparing stories or deciding whose experience is harder. It's about having a space where you can be honest, learn from one another and practise showing up differently.
The J.A.M. Effect™ didn't begin with a catchy acronym. It grew out of years of working with people who knew they wanted something different but couldn't always get out of their own way.
Originally delivered as Slay Your Inner Critic, this work has evolved through years of facilitation, participant feedback and what we've learned about how meaningful change actually happens.
The J.A.M. Effect™ is the next evolution of that work.

Jennifer Matwawana and Shirley Brooks have spent decades helping people understand themselves, navigate change and move forward.
Together, we don't just ask, "What do you know?" We help you explore, "What are you going to do with what you know?"
A new season of your life can bring a new inner critic to the table.
The J.A.M. Effect™ isn't simply Slay Your Inner Critic with a new name. The framework has evolved, the tools have deepened—and you've changed too.
Come back and meet the work from where you are now.
These are the voices of people who have experienced this work over the years, including its earlier form as Slay Your Inner Critic. The name and framework have evolved, but the heart of the work remains: helping people better understand themselves and put what they learn into practice.
You don't have to wait until you're more confident, less afraid or completely sure.
You can notice what's happening without judging yourself for it. You can make choices that align with what you actually want. And you can practise doing it until you trust yourself to find your way back.
That's The J.A.M. Effect™.
